Volvo XC60 R-Design

Another news for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show with this R-Design version of the Volvo XC60. Basically this will be a sporty version of the current 4-wheel drive.

The sporty look comes from some details all over the Volvo XC60 R-Design. You can see a metal rear skid-plate, side scuff plates, twin chrome tailpipes and 18" aluminium wheels. And the whole body is painted, unlike on the regular XC60. There are a lot of aluminium inserts inside as well to create a sport mood.

This looks more interesting than the XC60. Well, at least I myself prefer this XC60 R-Design, but let's wait for the real thing before judging.

Mini Coupe Concept

The Frankfurt Motor Show is definitely going to be THE place to be. Among the exciting upcoming models we can add this gorgeous Mini Coupe Concept. Designed for the 50th birthday of the famous British make, the Mini Coupe Concept is really a beautiful car! With its very low, aluminum-made roof, the Coupe has a very good look.

Created as a serious rival to the Audi TT and the Peugeot RCZ, the Mini Coupe Concept has indeed a lot of assets. The face is really from Mini but the rest is original and it is announced as a rather luxury car.

Let's say a word about the engine. The Mini Coupe Concept will enjoy the 208 bhp, 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine from the John Cooper Works hot hatch. It should go quite fast as the aluminum roof makes this car very light.
Very nice.

Citroën DS3

Citroën has issued some pieces of information about the model that will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Citroën DS3 is said to be a serious rival to the Mini of the Fiat 500, and it is undoubtedly.

As well as for the small BMW-owned little car, the roof of the Citroën DS3 can be of a different colour than the rest of the body. Customers will be able to make their car look like they want to. The design itself is really eye-catching. We can say that Citroën is really finding a new, incredible style of its own, as it used to be in a more glorious time.

Under the bonnet, it's quite good too: two HDi diesels (from 90 to 110 bhp) and three petrol engines (from 95 to 150 bhp) will be available. As it is one of the most important things for Citroën, the DS3 is rather eco-friendly, with no more than 160g/km of CO2.

That's one good little car! I'm really looking forward the Frankfurt show with all these new models coming up!

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

The German car maker Porsche has given birth to its latest beauty. The 911 GT3 RS is the (ultra) sportive version of the mythic 911. And the pictures are simply mind-blowing.

And the figures are quite impressive too (but not surprising though):

  • 450 bhp
  • 6-speed manual gearbox
  • top speed: 193 mph (310 kmh)
  • from 0 to 62 mph: 4s
  • from 0 to 124 mph: 12.2s

That must be kind of fun to drive.

But if, like me, you are not likely to drive one of these in a near or far future, you can go to Porsche's website to have a glimpse. There is a video where you can see the 911 GT3 RS on a track, and well it looks like it's definitely fun.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is to go on sale February 2010. Recommended retail price: £100.760. Expensive? Well, it includes the V.A.T.

Seat Leon Cupra R

Spanish Seat unveiled some pieces of information about its latest Leon Cupra R. As the Volkswagen-owned carmaker has been doing for a few years now, the Leon Cupra R is looking very "muscular". And painted in spicy green like in the press release photos is making it even meaner!

The Seat Leon Cupra R will feature the new Leon’s 265 PS direct injection 2.0 TSI engine with some mouth-watering performances: 265 bhp, from zero to 62 mph in 6.1 seconds, a top speed of 155 mph and a 35 mpg fuel consumption.

The standard equipment includes ABS + TCS, ESP + EBA, XDS (SEAT’s new electronic system which mimics the function of a limited slip differential), front and front side airbags, curtain airbags, passenger airbag disconnection, rear window seat Isofix anchoring points, low tyre pressure warning, light and rain sensors, rear parking sensors, cruise control, trip computer, cornering fog lights, dual zone climate control and MP3-compatible eight-speaker CD/radio.

The Seat Leon Cupra R will be present at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

Peugeot RCZ

The French carmaker Peugeot has released a few pics of the wonderful RCZ on its official website. It is derived from the RCZ Concept that was revealed in Frankfurt in 2007. The goal of Peugeot with this car is simple: to challenge the Audi TT, as it can easily be seen on the pics.

Peugeot has announced three available motors: 1.6 THP 156bhp with manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox; 2.0 HDi FAP 163bhp with manual gearbox and 1.6 THP 200bhp with manual gearbox. As the French make is one of the greenest carmakers on the market, some interesting figures about the consumption are announced: from 53 MPG (5.3l/100km) to 37 MPG (7.5l/100km), and from 139g/km to 174g/km of CO2 emissions.

The Peugeot RCZ is to be put on sales in 2010.

The New Bentley Mulsanne

The prestige marque Bentley has unveiled yesterday its latest model. It is called the Mulsanne and, well, is very appealing. The Mulsanne is said to be inspired from the 8-litre, a 1930 car designed by Bentley's founder.

According to Bentley CEO, "the challenge [that was] set our engineers was to create a new grand Bentley that would stand as the pinnacle of British luxury motoring, offering the world’s most exclusive driving experience. They have responded to this challenge with real passion and the result is a luxury grand tourer that sets new standards in terms of comfort, effortless performance and hand-crafted refinement – the very qualities for which Bentley is renowned". The Forthcoming Chevrolet Volt

The giant American group General Motors has revealed yesterday some new features about the next Chevrolet Volt. As it was expected, the group is designing a hybrid car to comply with the eco-friendly mood that is reaching the automotive industry -and well, we are not going to complain about that.

The Volt is going to be what its name means. GM did not design a fully electric car, but this hybrid seems to be a nice start to try to catch up some other makes (let's say, Toyota, for example). And the American carmaker announces some very interesting figures.

On its battery only, the Chevrolet Volt is said to be able to drive up to 40 miles. And with the classic fuel engine, this figure goes up to 300 miles. But more interesting, the car is expected to achieve city fuel economy of at least 230 miles per gallon.

The Chevrolet Volt is to be released in late 2010. Wait and see...

A Focus on Vauxhall

Vauxhall car parts

Vauxhall is a British make that was founded in the London district of Vauxhall by Alexander Wilson in 1857. But the company issued its first car only in 1903, and then moved its production line in Luton.

In 1925, Vauxhall was bought by the Americain General Motors. That's why all the vehicles from Vauxhall in the modern era are strictly derivated from the German make Opel, also owned by GM.

Maybe this is going to change as GM, in a critical position nowadays, is willing to sell its British marque. Perhaps we will see absolutely new, orginal Vauxhall models in the future!

Nissan Leaf

Nissan Leaf

Three days ago, the Japanese automaker Nissan has revealed its latest car. It is called Leaf and it is the first electric car that is designed to be sold worldwide, like any other regular car.

The Leaf can reach up to 100 miles (160 km) on its lithium-ion battery, which can be full charged in about an hour with a quick charger, or in about eight hours on a regular plug, at home.

The Nissan Leaf is the natural evolution of cars in these days where people and governments are hunting CO2 high production rates. Indeed, this car does not produce any CO2 or any other greenhouse gases. Yet, although the autonomy is quite good, the Leaf is going to be a great city car, but not a long runner.

Well, at last a good-looking electric car!

The New Ferrari 458 Italia

The famous Italian automaker has recently revealed its latest jewel. As it can be seen on the official website of the marque, the brand new F458 Italia will be officially released at the next Frankfurt Motor Show. And what we can see on the pictures is already mouth-watering!

A car one more time designed by Pininfarina, the F458 Italia is a two-seater berlinetta with a mid-rear engine. The technology used is allegedly taken from the Formula 1 experience. And the sound is said to be typically Ferrari! I didn't have the chance to listen to it but it must be a good one.

According to the figures provided by Ferrari, the F458 is producing only 320g/km of CO2 and the fuel consumption is just 13.7 l/100 km,which makes it the most effective car in this segment. In the same time, this beautiful car can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4s with a maximum speed of 325 km/h.

Fast and beautiful. This is going to be a great Ferrari.
