Peugeot 5008

Peugeot 5008

First announced during the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Peugeot 5008 has been revealed more precisely by the French auto maker. At first, one may be disappointed by the rather dull design of the 5008. Indeed, Peugeot has been more audacious with some of its other recent models.

Yet, the inside seems to be very comfortable and convenient, not to mention the quality of the Peugeot 5008. Peugeot shades light on the modularity and the space inside the 5008. If you combine all of this with some nice high-tech features (such as the satnav or the head-up display), you have a car that you enjoy being inside of.

Under the bonnet, Peugeot will use its long experience in Diesel engines by offering four HDi engines (110, 150 and 163bhp) and two petrol engines (120 and 156bhp). These motors produce from 140 to 181g/km of CO2 and the fuel consumption ranges from 5.2 to 7.4 l/100km.

BMW X1

After the success of the 1 Series, the German carmaker BMW has revealed the new X1. Not really a SUV but not a regular car either, the BMW X1 is the perfect example of what a cross-over is.

The BMW X1 will be available in five different versions. Starting from £22,660, the most expensive will reach £29,055, all in Diesel. The CO2 emissions vary from 136 to 167 g/km and the fastest BMW X1 can go from 0 to 62mph in just 7.3s.

The interior of the BMW X1 is just what we can expect from the Bavarian brand: quality and luxury. You will feel very comfortable driving this "little" car (little compared to its fellow X3, X5 and X6).

Citroën Revolte

The French Citroën is definitely going back to beautifully desgined and intelligent cars nowadays. After a rather dull period, the carmarker is really back to its best. The latest example is this stunning Revolte concept that was unleashed at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Let the pictures speak.

Openly taking after the mythical 2CV, the Citroën Revolte is more on a luxury tone, I would say. Indeed, there is a three-seater cabin, designed to resemble a lounge with seats similar to those found in home furnishings. It does look like comfortable.

The Citroën Revolte has the following features under the bonnet. There is a small-capacity conventional combustion engine that is combined with an electric motor. The driver of the Revolte has the ability to run in all-electric ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) mode, i.e. without emissions. Not so bad.

Bugatti Galibier

Bugatti is celebrating its 100th birthday this year, and what's better than a brand new concept to celebrate such an anniversary? The legendary marque has revealed extensive details about the Galibier. A successor of the €1-million Veyron, the Bugatti Galibier is "intended to be the most exclusive, elegant and powerful four-door automobile in the world".

The Bugatti Galibier is built with a carbonfibre body while the wings and doors are in polished aluminum. This gives the car a vintage look that I find very appealing. As you can see on the picture above, the bonnet opens in a very strange way.

Yet we can't help thinking that the Bugatti Galibier looks a lot like the recent Porsche Panamera. The make will decide whether this concept will go into production in 2010.

Koenigsegg Trevita

The Swedish super sport cars manufacturer Koenigsegg has revealed its latest masterpiece. Called Trevita (meaning "three whites" in Swedish", this great car is entirely made of carbonfibres which gives it a very sparkling look.

According to the Swedish carmaker, "Koenigsegg has managed to coat fibers with a diamond finish. The process was fully developed at Koenigsegg headquarters in Ängelholm Sweden, where the fiber treatment is conducted carefully in small quantities, prior to further processing the prepreg material."

Yet it's unlikely that you can see a Trevita in real (as well as any other Koenigsegg by the way). As its name indicates, only three models will be manufactured. Did you say "exclusive car"?

Lamnorghini Revanton Roadster

Lamborghini presents the ultimate driving machine among open-top two-seaters - the Lamborghini Reventón Roadster is a sports car of breathtaking fascination, menacing power and uncompromising performance. The 6.5 liter twelve-cylinder generates 493 kW (670 PS), catapulting the Roadster from 0 to 100 Km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 330 KM/h (205 mph). The open-top Lamborghini Reventón Roadster is not only one of the fastest, but also one of the most exclusive cars in the world - Lamborghini has limited the series.

The Lamborghini Reventón Roadster is not destined to remain a one-off. Less than 20 Lamborghini friends and collectors will be able to own this extraordinary car and, naturally, enjoy the incomparable pleasure of driving it. Each Lamborghini Reventón Roadster will be sold for 1.1 Million Euro (without taxes). Deliveries will begin October 2009.

Open-top sports cars are a tradition at Lamborghini that stretches back over 40 years. In 1968, the company from Sant'Agata Bolognese built a Lamborghini Miura without a fixed roof as a one-off. The Lamborghini Diablo Roadster appeared in 1995 with its targa roof anchored to the engine cover.

Audi e-tron

You are going to say that I'm talking waaaaay to much of electric cars but the facts are there: a lot of makers are running this race. The latest one is Germany's Audi, which revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show this e-tron. As you can see, it is basically a R8 -but fully electric. And yes, it's going really fast.

The figures are quite impressive. The 4 electric engines of the Audi e-tron have 313 hp and the car can go from 0 to 62mph in 4.8s. The top speed is limited to 125mph and the autonomy is announced to be of about 156m. The Audi e-tron is clearly a serious rival of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics.

A fast and beautiful electric car: ecology has suddenly become very attractive to me.

Toyota Land Cruiser

Toyota Land Cruiser

Toyota, world's first carmaker, has revealed the latest generation of the Land Cruiser. At first glance, not so many changes can be noticed. Considering that the Toyota Land Cruiser is 60-year-old and has been bought by five million customers in 176 countries around the world, we can understand that this best-selling 4WD is of strong importance to the Japanese manufacturer.

The new Land Cruiser will only be available as a five-door model with seven seats. There are other models to be released on other European markets but Toyota does not plan to make them available on the U.K. market. This version will come with a 171bhp 3.0-litre D-4D diesel engine with five-speed automatic transmission. The Toyota Land Cruiser will go from 0 to 62mph in 11.7s with a top speed of 109mph.

The Toyota Land Cruiser is quite impressive. With a length of 4.7 metres, a width of 1.9 metre and a height of 1.8 metre, it's going to be a big one. Just for the record, Toyota announced a fuel consumption of 34.9mpg with emissions of CO2 of 214 g/km.
Not really original, but still good to look at.

McLaren MP4-12C

McLaren is back to business with this little jewel. Its name: the McLaren MP4-12C. Ok, not really easy to remember, but if you can't recall the name, you have to be impressed by this stunning look. Just enjoy it.

But as you can guess, the McLaren MP4-12C is not only beautiful, it's also quite powerful. The engine is a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with 600bhp controlled with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, made by McLaren, of course.

A few lines about the ecological trend of the moment: the McLaren MP4-12C has more power per gram of CO2 than any other cars which are not electric vehicles. No official figures are available yet, but the MP4-12C should produce about 200 g/km. It is scheduled for early 2011 and should be priced at £150,000.

Peugeot i0n

Peugeot i0n

And yes: this is another electric car coming up. The French carmaker Peugeot has released this picture of the i0n prior to the Frankfurt Motor Show.

And yes: it is ugly.

But the interesting part is shown in the figures Peugeot announced for this little car. The Peugeot i0n has been created in close collaboration with Japanese Mistubishi, a long-time partner of the French make (remember the 4007, which was a Peugeot-labelled Outlander). The i0n is said to go 80 miles on its lithium-ion battery, with a theoric top speed of 80mph. The battery can be charged in six hours on domestic power, but if you have a fast charge system, you'll have 80% of the baterry in just half an hour.

Coming from Peugeot this release is not surprising. Indeed, with the 106 Electric (issued back in 1995), the French firm has sold more zero CO2 emission vehicles than any other maker in the world.

But it's definitely too ugly.

The American giant is going to introduce the latest version of the Ford C-Max at the Frankfurt Motor Show. According to Ford, the new C-Max is derivated from the iosis Max concept that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

The Ford C-Max will used a brand new engine: the 1.6-litre EcoBoost with direct injection petrol. Ford will also introduce a semi-automatic parallel parking and a blind-spot detection system on the behalf of safety.

But there are not much information about the forthcoming car. Ford will announce additionnal details at the press conference of the Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September.

Rolls-Royce Ghost

Rolls-Royce has released some official photos for the Ghost. Well, the pics are speaking for themselves: this is indeed a Rolls-Royce. No real surprise on this one but this is not what we expect from Rolls-Royce, is it?

The Rolls-Royce Ghost is powered by a new twin turbo 6.6-litre V12 engine and comes with a 8-speed ZF gearbox. It can go from 0 to 62mph in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph.

Inside the Rolls-Royce Ghost, it all luxury. It has been designed to be "an escape from the outside world". Among other things, you will find a 600 watts sound system with a 12.5GB hard drive. Two LCD screens are available for passengers. It is furnished with large expanses of soft-full grain leather, natural wood veneers and deep Blenheim carpets. But as each Ghost is hand-built to order, you can choose some details (if you can pay the £200,000, of course).

Toyota Auris Hybrid

The world's first carmaker Toyota has released some pics of the Auris Hybrid that is going to be fully revealed during the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Visually, nothing really changes from the regular Auris, except a slight alteration of the front bumper. But following the global trend and the success of its Prius, Toyota is now moving a step forward by making a high-scale produced hybrid car.

150 Auris Hybrid will be launched in 2010 for people to try it in real-life conditions. And with the experience Toyota has in this field, we can expect something really good for the little car.

BMW Vision EfficientDynamics

BMW is not very famous for its eco-friendly cars. Yet, the German carmaker has revealed a stunning concept prior to the Frankfurt Motor Show, this beautiful Vision EddicientDynamics.

The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept uses a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbodiesel. But as it is an Hybrid, it is associated to two electric motors which are located in both front and rear axles. The car reached 351 bhp. It's a "little" more than the Prius.

Even if the Vision EfficientDynamics is only a concept, BMW stated that the future models of the make will use the innovative technology developped on this concept. If the design is equally appealing, I'm really looking forward the next things!

Volvo XC60 R-Design

Another news for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show with this R-Design version of the Volvo XC60. Basically this will be a sporty version of the current 4-wheel drive.

The sporty look comes from some details all over the Volvo XC60 R-Design. You can see a metal rear skid-plate, side scuff plates, twin chrome tailpipes and 18" aluminium wheels. And the whole body is painted, unlike on the regular XC60. There are a lot of aluminium inserts inside as well to create a sport mood.

This looks more interesting than the XC60. Well, at least I myself prefer this XC60 R-Design, but let's wait for the real thing before judging.

Mini Coupe Concept

The Frankfurt Motor Show is definitely going to be THE place to be. Among the exciting upcoming models we can add this gorgeous Mini Coupe Concept. Designed for the 50th birthday of the famous British make, the Mini Coupe Concept is really a beautiful car! With its very low, aluminum-made roof, the Coupe has a very good look.

Created as a serious rival to the Audi TT and the Peugeot RCZ, the Mini Coupe Concept has indeed a lot of assets. The face is really from Mini but the rest is original and it is announced as a rather luxury car.

Let's say a word about the engine. The Mini Coupe Concept will enjoy the 208 bhp, 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine from the John Cooper Works hot hatch. It should go quite fast as the aluminum roof makes this car very light.
Very nice.

Citroën DS3

Citroën has issued some pieces of information about the model that will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Citroën DS3 is said to be a serious rival to the Mini of the Fiat 500, and it is undoubtedly.

As well as for the small BMW-owned little car, the roof of the Citroën DS3 can be of a different colour than the rest of the body. Customers will be able to make their car look like they want to. The design itself is really eye-catching. We can say that Citroën is really finding a new, incredible style of its own, as it used to be in a more glorious time.

Under the bonnet, it's quite good too: two HDi diesels (from 90 to 110 bhp) and three petrol engines (from 95 to 150 bhp) will be available. As it is one of the most important things for Citroën, the DS3 is rather eco-friendly, with no more than 160g/km of CO2.

That's one good little car! I'm really looking forward the Frankfurt show with all these new models coming up!

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

The German car maker Porsche has given birth to its latest beauty. The 911 GT3 RS is the (ultra) sportive version of the mythic 911. And the pictures are simply mind-blowing.

And the figures are quite impressive too (but not surprising though):

  • 450 bhp
  • 6-speed manual gearbox
  • top speed: 193 mph (310 kmh)
  • from 0 to 62 mph: 4s
  • from 0 to 124 mph: 12.2s

That must be kind of fun to drive.

But if, like me, you are not likely to drive one of these in a near or far future, you can go to Porsche's website to have a glimpse. There is a video where you can see the 911 GT3 RS on a track, and well it looks like it's definitely fun.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is to go on sale February 2010. Recommended retail price: £100.760. Expensive? Well, it includes the V.A.T.
