Peugeot 5008

Peugeot 5008

First announced during the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Peugeot 5008 has been revealed more precisely by the French auto maker. At first, one may be disappointed by the rather dull design of the 5008. Indeed, Peugeot has been more audacious with some of its other recent models.

Yet, the inside seems to be very comfortable and convenient, not to mention the quality of the Peugeot 5008. Peugeot shades light on the modularity and the space inside the 5008. If you combine all of this with some nice high-tech features (such as the satnav or the head-up display), you have a car that you enjoy being inside of.

Under the bonnet, Peugeot will use its long experience in Diesel engines by offering four HDi engines (110, 150 and 163bhp) and two petrol engines (120 and 156bhp). These motors produce from 140 to 181g/km of CO2 and the fuel consumption ranges from 5.2 to 7.4 l/100km.

Peugeot i0n

Peugeot i0n

And yes: this is another electric car coming up. The French carmaker Peugeot has released this picture of the i0n prior to the Frankfurt Motor Show.

And yes: it is ugly.

But the interesting part is shown in the figures Peugeot announced for this little car. The Peugeot i0n has been created in close collaboration with Japanese Mistubishi, a long-time partner of the French make (remember the 4007, which was a Peugeot-labelled Outlander). The i0n is said to go 80 miles on its lithium-ion battery, with a theoric top speed of 80mph. The battery can be charged in six hours on domestic power, but if you have a fast charge system, you'll have 80% of the baterry in just half an hour.

Coming from Peugeot this release is not surprising. Indeed, with the 106 Electric (issued back in 1995), the French firm has sold more zero CO2 emission vehicles than any other maker in the world.

But it's definitely too ugly.

Mini Coupe Concept

Mini Coupe Concept

The Frankfurt Motor Show is definitely going to be THE place to be. Among the exciting upcoming models we can add this gorgeous Mini Coupe Concept. Designed for the 50th birthday of the famous British make, the Mini Coupe Concept is really a beautiful car! With its very low, aluminum-made roof, the Coupe has a very good look.

Created as a serious rival to the Audi TT and the Peugeot RCZ, the Mini Coupe Concept has indeed a lot of assets. The face is really from Mini but the rest is original and it is announced as a rather luxury car.

Let's say a word about the engine. The Mini Coupe Concept will enjoy the 208 bhp, 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine from the John Cooper Works hot hatch. It should go quite fast as the aluminum roof makes this car very light.
Very nice.

Peugeot RCZ

Peugeot RCZ

The French carmaker Peugeot has released a few pics of the wonderful RCZ on its official website. It is derived from the RCZ Concept that was revealed in Frankfurt in 2007. The goal of Peugeot with this car is simple: to challenge the Audi TT, as it can easily be seen on the pics.

Peugeot has announced three available motors: 1.6 THP 156bhp with manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox; 2.0 HDi FAP 163bhp with manual gearbox and 1.6 THP 200bhp with manual gearbox. As the French make is one of the greenest carmakers on the market, some interesting figures about the consumption are announced: from 53 MPG (5.3l/100km) to 37 MPG (7.5l/100km), and from 139g/km to 174g/km of CO2 emissions.

The Peugeot RCZ is to be put on sales in 2010.

A focus on Peugeot

A Focus on Peugeot

On this blog we will try to write some articles about cars as a rule. Today's article will focus on the French make Peugeot.

Peugeot logo

Originally a grinder maker, Peugeot has released its first model in 1889, and the Peugeot company was then founded in 1896 by Armand Peugeot. Although the current headquarters are located in Paris, the historical place of birth of Peugeot is Montbéliard, eastern France. Nowadays, the plant in Sochaux (next to Montbéliard) is the biggest plant in France with more than 12,000 workers.

Peugeot is the second largest auto manufacturer in Europe after Volkswagen, with almost 3,500,000 units produced in 2007. The famous models of Peugeot include the 403 (Lieutenant Columbo's car), the 205 or, more recently, the 406.

In 1976, Peugeot bought the French automaker Citroën and formed an entity called PSA Peugeot Citroën. It is interesting to know that the Peugeot family is still a major shareholder of the company.

The future Peugeot models to be announced are a 308 coupé and the 408.
